ASTROTURF RESURFACING IN HAMPSHIRE

Hampshire stretches from the South Downs to the Solent coast, with major centres including Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester, Basingstoke and Andover. The county combines coastal towns, rural villages and growing urban areas, each with its own sporting and educational needs.

The University of Southampton and the University of Portsmouth are major academic centres, supported by institutions such as Winchester University and several large further education colleges. Independent schools including Winchester College, King Edward VI School and Portsmouth Grammar School contribute to a strong sporting culture and a steady demand for reliable facilities.

Hampshire has an active sporting scene, with professional football at Southampton and Portsmouth and a strong presence in rugby, hockey and netball through well established clubs and community leagues. Schools, colleges and clubs make extensive use of their pitches throughout the year, which places real pressure on artificial surfaces. The county’s varied terrain and coastal weather patterns make durable, well planned sports pitches essential for consistent performance.

Adsum Sport and Play brings more than 25 years of experience to synthetic pitch (often called Astroturf) resurfacing, helping facilities upgrade ageing surfaces to restore performance, safety and long term reliability. Our work spans professional clubs, universities, schools and community facilities across Hampshire, built around a commitment to quality and long term reliability.

The original AstroTurf product was a short-pile synthetic turf invented in 1965 by Monsanto. It has since become a synonym for all types of artificial and synthetic playing surfaces.

After extended periods of use, synthetic pitches (often called Astroturf) inevitably show signs of wear, with fibres flattening, infill compacting and overall performance declining. Resurfacing replaces the old system with a new 2G, 3G or MUGA surface, often incorporating shock pad upgrades to enhance comfort and consistency. This process revitalises the facility and ensures it meets modern sporting expectations.

We manage resurfacing projects through a Prime Contractor model, coordinating technical assessments, surface removal and specialist installation using trusted local subcontractors. This ensures every resurfaced synthetic pitch is delivered to a high standard and ready for sustained, intensive use.
