Academies operate across a wide range of sites, from large multi‑academy trusts to individual schools with growing student populations. Their sports programmes often include football, rugby, hockey and netball, supported by regular training sessions and competitive fixtures that place steady pressure on their facilities.
Many academies run extended school days, enrichment programmes and community partnerships, which increase the demand on pitches throughout the week. With pupils of different ages using the same spaces, reliable surfaces are essential for maintaining safety, performance and year round availability.
The combination of busy timetables, mixed ability groups and frequent fixtures means that artificial pitches play a central role in academy sport. Well planned surfaces help schools manage high usage, reduce weather‑related disruption and provide consistent playing conditions for students across all year groups.

Our work at Springwest Academy Feltham
Astroturf Resurfacing at English Martyrs Catholic School Hartlepool
Adsum Sport and Play brings more than 25 years of experience to synthetic pitch (often called Astroturf) resurfacing, helping facilities upgrade ageing surfaces to restore performance, safety and long term reliability. Our work is primarily focused within the counties surrounding our Buckinghamshire headquarters, supported by a national footprint that allows us to deliver consistently wherever Academies are based.
The original AstroTurf product was a short-pile synthetic turf invented in 1965 by Monsanto. It has since become a synonym for all types of artificial and synthetic playing surfaces.
After extended periods of use, synthetic pitches (often called Astroturf) inevitably show signs of wear, with fibres flattening, infill compacting and overall performance declining. Resurfacing replaces the old system with a new 2G, 3G or MUGA surface, often incorporating shock pad upgrades to enhance comfort and consistency. This process revitalises the facility and ensures it meets modern sporting expectations.
We manage resurfacing projects through a Prime Contractor model, coordinating technical assessments, surface removal and specialist installation using trusted local subcontractors. This ensures every resurfaced synthetic pitch is delivered to a high standard and ready for sustained, intensive use.
